Clark Shatters School Record on Day One of C-USA Championships
Herd earns 13 points on first day
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Marshall track and field completed the first day of competition Saturday at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Herd earned 13 points and was led by junior Hasana Clark’s massive school record of 19.82 meters (65 feet, 0.25 inches) in the weight throw. Her record shatters her previous personal best and school record of 18.46m (60 ft. 6 in.). Clark finished third in the event and earned six points in team standings for Marshall.
Junior Reneese Batson finished fifth in the weight throw with a best throw of 18.28m (59 ft. 11.75 in.) which is a new personal best and the new second best personal record in school history. She earned four points in team standings for Marshall.
Junior Sarah Bever opened the day with a sixth place finish in the pentathlon. She earned 3578 points over the five events, earning three points in team standings for Marshall.
The Herd had four runners qualify for Sunday finals based on finishing in the top-eight of their respective event on Saturday. In the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Safiyyah Mitchell (8.66) and freshman Taylor Robinson (8.82) qualified for the finals.
Action for the Herd on Sunday begins at noon ET with junior Sarah Bever in the high jump.
