COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Marshall University women’s track and field team drew an end to its 2011-12 regular season indoor meets on Friday night, capping off a successful first term with an impressive showing at the Ohio State Tune-Up.
With just one week until the Thundering Herd is scheduled to test its mettle against its top rivals at the Conference USA Indoor Championships, Friday’s meet at the French Field House provided the Marshall athletes one last chance to improve upon their previous season performances.
Overall, five members of the team took advantage of the opportunity, as Rachel Coaxum (36-05.75) and Loren Dyer (36-11.75) claimed personal bests in the triple jump, Brittany Carey tallied a career best in the 60m, Kearra Haynes ran the 400m with a personal record of 1:00.60, and Amber Pierson posted a personal best of 26.22 in the 200m.
“It was a good tune-up for next week’s Conference USA championship,” said Head Coach Jeff Small following the meet. Assistant coach Willie Johnson was also impressed, saying, “It was a great meet overall for the team as we head into conference action.”
The Herd will return home this week and continue to prepare for the C-USA Indoor Championships, which are scheduled to begin in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday, February 25.
