Marshall University athletes set two school records during the first day of competition at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Houston.
Thundering Herd senior Marian Brooks (Flat Top, W.Va.) finished seventh in the 5,000 meter run with a school record time of 17:31.01. That mark bettered the school record of 17:46.96 that she established last season.
Marshall sophomore sprinter Carmissa Morris (Greenville, S.C.) missed the finals of the 60 meters by only .02 seconds, but managed to set a school record in the event with a preliminary run of 7.65 seconds. That mark eclipses the previous record of 7.68 seconds that she set on Feb. 10th of this year at Clemson.
MU freshman Tarrin Scott (Bellefontaine, Ohio) placed seventh in the pentathalon and scored Marshall's first two points of the meet, with a score of 3213. Her top event in the pentathalon was a fourth place finish in the long jump (5.55 meters).
Sophmore LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C) and junior Britani Burke finished 9th and 10th, respectively in the weight throw. Jones recorded a throw of 16.02 meters, while Burke reached 15.33 meters.
The meet continues Saturday with a full day of events scheduled. Schedule information and live results can be found online at ConferenceUSA.com.
