March 24, 2012

ORLANDO, Fla.- The Marshall University women's track and field team completed day one of the UCF Invitational on Friday night, as Amanda Kennedy continued her ascension this outdoor season with another record-breaking performance in the javelin throw.

The junior from Bentleyville, Pa., broke her own school record in the event at last weekend's Black and Gold Challenge and was once again in solid form as she posted a distance of 44.82m to better her old mark of 44.24m.

Junior Amber Pierson also put in a solid performance for the Thundering Herd, finishing sixth out of over 30 jumpers with a personal best leap of 5.91m (19-04.75) in the long jump. The Herd's Julia Galloway also set a personal record, posting a time of 40:10.58 that was good enough for second place in the 1000m run.

The action will resume Saturday morning with Amanda Hottenstein and Elizabeth Barnhart in the discus throw at 9:30 a.m. and will conclude with the 4x400m relay at 4:40 p.m.
