Huge Weekend for Herd Track and Field at Spring Break Invite
Three individual Herd wins
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall track and field team completed the UNF Spring Break Invitational Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla., posting three individual wins and several other impressive results.
In just her second collegiate event, freshman Heidi Heiniger won the javelin throw, with a throw of 41.98 meters.
Senior Alexandra Phares earned the win in the 5,000 meter run, with a 17:52.27 time that was 13 seconds faster than the second place finisher.
In other field events, freshman Elena Marchand earned a fourth place finish in shot put (13.40m). Marchand also placed fourth in discus (48.31m). Junior Mercedes Dowell finished fifth in hammer throw (45.84m), while freshman Hasana Clark placed sixth (45.40m). Freshman Sarah Bever finished 13th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.51). Freshman Allie Perry placed seventh in pole vault with a new school record of 3.20m.
Junior Amber Govey and sophomore Victoria Dent placed seventh (12:17.39) and eighth (12:47.39) respectively in the 3,000m steeplechase.
“I was thrilled with the way our freshmen performed at this meet which, included big wins in the long jump by Lauren George and in the javelin throw by Heidi Heninger,” Marshall coach Jeff Small said. “We also had six other freshman who had top six finishes, including a monster discus throw by Elena Marchand of 158-6 inches for fourth place and a new school record by Allie Perry in the pole vault.”
