ATHENS, Ohio- The Thundering Herd track and field team placed third at the Ohio Invitational during the two day meet that began on Friday afternoon and finished today. Marshall, who scored 112.50 points, finished behind Ohio and Bowling Green.
Carmisa Morris (Greenville, S.C.), Siketha Shephard-Hall (Houston, Texas) and the 4x100m relay team made up of Reshundra Smiley (Modesto, Calif.), Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica), Tekisha Martin (Michigan City, Ind.) and Morris all earned first place during the meet. Morris ran to her first place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.39. Marshall's newest member to the track team, Shepherd-Hall, placed first in long jump with her jump of 19-02.50. The 4x100m relay team ran a time of 47.62.
In sprinting events Smiley sprinted to a second place finishes with a time of 12.67 in the 100m. Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) finished 10th with her time of 14.08.
Finishing just one second behind Carmisa Morris in the 200m was Katina Morris (Erie, Pa.). Katina Morris earned fourth place with her run of 26.30. Zedmalia Wolfe (Toronto, Ontario) earned 10th place with her time of 28.05.
Richards earned second place in the 400m with a time of 59.08. Cathryn Morris (Erie, Pa.) claimed 13th with a time of 1:05.01.
Karmen Collins (Slicklerville, N.J.) was the only Marshall hurdler for the meet. In the 100m hurdles she claimed second place with a time of 15.70. In the 400m hurdles she finished fourth.
In the distance events Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) finished 6th in the 800m. Finishing in 18th, 19th and 20th were Fabiola Gonzales (Huntington, W.Va.), Terryn Webb (Beckley, W.Va.) and Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J.), respectively.
Emily Bailey (Kenova, W.Va.) and Anna Chaney (Huntington, W.Va.) finished the 1500m in 13th and 14th places with times of 5:28.10 and 5:28.78.
Hannah Kovarik (Hurricane, W.Va.) was the highest Marshall finish in the 5000m. Her run of 18:39 earned her fifth place. Achilles, Chaney, Rebecca Minardi (Dayton, Ohio) and Sarah Sturgill (Hurricane, W.Va.) all ran in the race as well and finished 13th, 16th, 17th and 19th.
Wrapping up the running events for the day was the 4x400m relay. The team was made up of Breanna Jones (Columbia, S.C.), Katina Morris, Eastman and Richards placed fourth in the event.
One of the Herd's strongest field events of the meet was the hammer throw. Marshall did not claim first place in the event, but stacked the results with a third place, fourth place, sixth and eighth place finishes. Brittani Burke (Proctorville, Ohio) claimed third with a toss of 150-05. Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J) finished in fourth with her heave of 143-11. Jessica Pissini (Hermitage, Pa.) finished in sixth wit her her throw of 129-11. Nicole Kyle (Keyser, W.Va.) closed out the event with her toss of 127-02.
In the discus throw LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C.) threw the discus 133-10 for third place. Pissini claimed 10th with a throw of 116-11.
Pissini and Jones also competed in the shot put. Jones finished in sixth and Pissini in ninth. Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) placed between the two in seventh with her throw of 42-02.75.
In the triple jump Brown earned second with her leap of 35-03.75. She also jumped in the long jump and finished ninth.
Kwema Phillander (Siparia, Trinidad) earned sixth in the javelin throw with her throw of 114-06.
Marshall will compete again on April 7 at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
