Herd Track and Field Completes C-USA Outdoor Championships
Heiniger Places Second in Javelin Throw

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Marshall track and field team wrapped up its season Sunday at the 2016 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Middle Tennessee State University. As a team, Marshall finished 10th with 31 points.
Leading the way for Marshall was freshman Heidi Heiniger, who finished second in the javelin throw with a long throw of 43.01 meters.
Other top-10 results included the two relay teams, as the 4x100-m relay team (Kametra Byrd, Shanice Johnson, Asia Bange, and Hope Julmiste) finished in fourth (45.97 seconds) and the 4x400-m relay team (Breanna Hargrove, Tianya Hankerson, Naja Greer, and Shanice Johnson) finished in sixth (3:45.62).
Individually, the Herd had three other top-10 finishes. In the 100-m hurdles finals, senior Asia Bange finished in fifth with a time of 13.84 seconds. In the triple jump, junior Antonique Butler finished sixth with a jump of 12.38 m. And in the 100-m dash finals, junior Hope Julmiste finished seventh with a time of 11.91 seconds.

“I was really proud of our young team,” Marshall coach Jeff Small said. “They competed very well and moved up several places in the team standings compared to the indoor championships.”
