JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Thundering Herd track and field athletes Amanda Kennedy and Vanessa Jules concluded their respective 2012 seasons on Thursday and Friday, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the final round of the NCAA Championships after their impressive performances fell just short.
Kennedy was the first athlete in a Marshall trio that included herself, Jules, and triple jumper Jasia Richardson to compete at the event, throwing in the javelin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bentleyville, Pa., native impressed early-on with a 44.50m throw that had her sitting one spot out of the top-12 qualifying places in 13th, but was ultimately overcome by the competition and finished in 15th.
Fellow junior teammate Vanessa Jules was the next member of the Herd to compete, participating in the high jump at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Jules, who set the Marshall record in the high jump earlier in the outdoor season, posted a leap of 1.77m that fell just short of her own record mark. Unfortunately for the Silver Springs, Md., native the jump also fell outside of the top-12, ending a season that has been full of record-setting performances from the Marshall star.
Jasia Richardson is now the only member of the squad yet to compete in her event at this year’s prelims, but will do so in the triple jump at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Live stats of her performance, along with results from the previous days’ events, may be found by clicking the links below.
