Richardson Concludes Marshall's NCAA Appearance|
May 27, 2012
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Marshall University track and field team had three athletes participating in this year’s NCAA East Region Preliminary Round, and after three days and three separate events the last of the Thundering Herd competitors made her bow on Saturday afternoon.
Junior triple jumper Jasia Richardson finished in 20th place out of 48 qualifiers with a jump of 12.55m that was just nine inches short of the Marshall record. Unfortunately for Richardson, the leap was also eight spots away from the top-12 qualifying mark of 12.97m. She joined Amanda Kennedy and Vanessa Jules as the third member of the squad to not advance beyond the preliminary round.
Nevertheless, the three Marshall athletes represented the largest Marshall contingent to participate in the event in over four years and did well to represent themselves and their school in the national spotlight. All three ladies finished in the top-half of their respective events and narrowly missed out on qualification for the NCAA Final Round in Des Moines, Iowa.
The conclusion of the NCAA National Prelims means that the Herd’s 2011-12 track and field season has officially come to a close. Having set ten school records, improved upon its finishes in both the indoor and outdoor Conference Championships, and retained its three NCAA qualifiers, the Thundering Herd track and field team looks poised for even further success heading into the 2012-13 season.
