DES MOINES, Iowa - Competing against the top athletes in the country, senior Vanessa Jules finished 12th in the heptathlon at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Drake Stadium.
The two-day event ended with Jules totaling 5,910 points highlighted by lowering her school record in the 200 meters with a time of 24.26 and earned 956 points while doing so. The previous record of 24.37 was set at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships earlier this season.
The All-American from Silver Spring, Md. finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (13.44) for 1,059 points, sixth in the high jump (1.74m) for 916 points, 15th in the shot put (10.62m) for 573 points, seventh in the long jump (5.92m) for 825 points, 14th in the Javelin (32.33m) for 521 points and 14th in the 800 meters for 789 points.
Sharon Day, competing for Asics, won the heptathlon with 6,550 points
Marshall freshman Asia Bange finished 16th in the prelims of the junior 100 meter hurdles on Thursday. She ran a time of 14.87, short of the top eight which would have qualified her for the finals later in the day. Jessica Gelibert had an eighth place time of 14.26.
