Jan. 12, 2012
LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Marshall University track and field team is gearing up for its second meet of the 2011-12 indoor season as it prepares to travel to the University of Kentucky for the weekend-long Kentucky Invitational.
The ladies of the Thundering Herd team began the season in impressive fashion at the Oiler Opener last month – winning four events – and will look to continue ascending in form and result this Friday and Saturday at Kentucky’s Nutter Field House.
Opening the competition for the Herd at 6:00 p.m. on Friday will be senior Brittany Stanley in the weight throw, while jumpers Elaine Derricott, Loren Dyer, Amber Pierson, and Crystal Walker will compete in the long jump at the same time.
Following Friday’s opening action, the Herd will resume on Saturday morning with the high and triple jumps at 10:30 a.m., and follow it up with 60m hurdles and sprints at 12:30 p.m. Junior All-Conference member Vanessa Jules, who broke the indoor school record in the 300m at the Oiler Open last month, will be in action for both the high jump and 60m hurdle events, while senior Rachel Coaxum will be competing in the triple jump and 60m hurdles.
The one mile run featuring Sam Stroker and Lauren DeHays will begin at 1:15, and is followed one hour later by Jules, Brittany Carey, Amber Pierson, Loren Dyer, Alanna Dawkins, and Alecia Daniels in the 400m run. The 800m, 200m, and 3000m will then take place at 3:00, 3:35, and 4:15 respectively, while the 1600m relay closes the meet out at 4:50.
