Track Teams Travel To Indianapolis For Stan Lyons Open

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall Men and Women’s track and field teams will travel to Indianapolis, In. Saturday to participate in the Stan Lyons Open. The event is hosted by Butler University.

The feild of teams includes: Mid-American Conference foe Miami University, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Eastern Kentucky, Butler, Wisconsin-Lutheran College, Chicago State College, Central State University, Cumberland College, Rend Lake College, University of Indianapolis, Whelling Jesuit, Marian College, University of Southern Indiana, Morehouse University and Valpraiso.

Marshall will head into the event after a strong showing at the University of Kentucky Invitational. The 4x400m relay team of Phil Jones, Jermaine Kelly, James Hickey and James Barr broke a 23-year old school record in the event. Barr, Kelly and Jones all placed 12th, 14th and 18th respecfully in the individual 400m sprint.

The women were led by junior Misha Piper (Kingston, Jamaica) who rewrote the record books in the 200m with a time of 25.49. Ashli Creal, Shelby Pride and Stephanie Eastman also had top 10 placings in there respective events.

The Thundering Herd track teams will not participate in the Tar Heel Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. as previously scheduled. The Stan Lyons Open concludes on Saturday.
