Track and Field to Host Chipotle Marshall Invitational
Meet runs Friday and Saturday
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Marshall track and field is set to host the fourth annual Chipotle Marshall Invitational beginning Friday, February 9 at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex.
The meet starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday with the women’s weight throw, men’s long jump, and men’s pole vault. Saturday’s portion of the meet starts at 10 a.m. with the high jump getting Marshall athletes underway for the day. Senior Marshall student-athletes will be honored at approximately 12:35 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets for the event are $7 for adults, $5 for ages 17 and under, and $3 for groups of 10 people or more. Marshall students gain free admission with a student ID.
Including the Herd the Chipotle Marshall Invitational features 12 schools representing eight states and seven conferences. Competing schools are Marshall, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Fort Wayne, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, SIU-Edwardsville, UNC-Asheville, West Virginia, Wright State, and Winthrop.
The meet is the final regular season indoor meet during the 2017-18 season for Marshall. The Thundering Herd competes at home for the fourth time, a venue where it has had success this season. The Herd defeated Ohio in a dual meet in December, tied for first place in the Marshall Women’s Classic, and finished second out of 13 schools in the Thundering Herd Invitational.
The Thundering Herd is one week removed from the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, a meet which featured 16 top-10 performances for Marshall athletes, nine of which were top-five finishes. Sophomore Safiyyah Mitchell won the 60 meter hurdles with a new school record time of 8.38.
