Casey Batey Leads Track and Field at Scarlet and Gray Invitational
Columbus, Ohio--Marshall University's indoor track and field teams competed at the Scarlet and Gray Invitational this weekend on the campus of Ohio State University.
Casey Batey led the way on the men's side, as he posted a time of 4:10.11 and took home first place in the mile run. Jacob Porter finished eighth for the Herd in the mile with a time of 4:24.02. Marshall also had a strong showing in the weight throw with Josh Sowers and Andy Burchfield coming in 3rd and 4th with throws of over 15 meters. Mark Littlejohn finished 5th in the 60 meter dash for the Herd with a time of 6.98 and John Ferguson finished 8th with a time of 7.01. Brent Garrett and Mike Jones finished 7th and 8th respectively in the 800 meter run with times of 1:56.41 and 1:57.24.
Marshall's women had an impressive showing, finishing near the top in several events, including a 3rd place finish in the 4X400 meter relay with a time of 4:02.02. Celeste Simpson and Michelle John finished second and third respectively in the 400 meter dash, posting times of 59.06 and 59.90. Andrea Perry placed fourth in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:44.74 and fifth in the 60 meter hurdles finishing with a time of 9.06. Sarah Corley had an impressive finish in the 3,000 meter run, finishing second with a time of 10:36.39.
The Herd women also fared well in the mile run with Shelby Pride finishing fifth with a time of 5:26.07 and Jessica Taylor finishing 7th with a time of 5:31.09. Kristen Herron finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.18 meters. Taneshia Becton finished 8th (26.58) in the 200 meter dash and Stephanie Eastman finshed 8th (2:22.32) in the 800 meter run to round out the Herd's top finishers.
The Thundering Herd track and field squad will compete in the MAC Indoor Championships February 22nd and 23rd.
