Halsey and Swisher Named Indoor Track Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND, OhioóMarshallís Amanda Halsey and Craig Swisher were both named to the 2003 Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team.

Halsey, a redshirt junior majoring in adult fitness and athletic training, carries a 3.70 grade point average and was one of the top throwers for the womenís team this season. The Dunkirk, Ohio native had a personal best throw in the 20 pound weight throw at the Stan Lyons Open with 47 feet-10.7 inches. Halsey placed fourth in the event.

Swisher, a redshirt sophomore majoring in biology, carries a 3.58 grade point average. The Bidwell, Ohio native scored a fourth place finish in the menís 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:28.43 at the Stan Lyons open and a sixth place finish at the Doug Raymond Invitational.

The honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.

The award is voted on by the faculty athletic representatives at the seven member institutions that sponsor men's track and field. Eighteen MAC student-athletes earned Academic All-MAC honors, including a six way tie. The Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC team returns this season after a five year hiatus.

The Marshall Track and Field teams begin their outdoor season Saturday, March 15 at the Ohio University Tri-Meet in Athens, Ohio.
