Herd Track and Field Heads to Florida State
Competition runs through Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall's track and field team will compete at the 34th annual Florida State Relays on Friday and Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Cyrstal Walker, Delkira Maybin, Moriah Njoku and Shanice Johnson are coming off a school-record time of 45.97 in last Friday's Bulls Invitational in Tampa, Fla. They are slated to run again this weekend.
The school-record holder in many events, Vanessa Jules, will compete in the high jump this weekend. The senior tied her record in Tampa last Friday with a second place leap of 1.78 meters.
In the throwing events, freshman Bethany Drury and junior Amanda Hottenstein will compete in both the discus and the hammer throw. Derricott, Jules and Amanda Kennedy will represent the Herd in the javelin. Meanwhile, Derricott, Drury and Hottenstein will participate in the shot put.
Marshall will have six competing in the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Four will compete in the 400 meters including Kearra Haynes who completed the run in a time of 58.96 last weekend.
In the distance events, Celia Leonard, Zoe Leonard and Leslie Thomas will compete in the 1500 meters. In the 5000 meters, Marshall will run Lauren Bartoldson, Kelley Mortakis (also running the 800 meters), Alexandria Phares and Sammantha Stroker. Junior Julia Galloway will run the 10000 meters and Paige Govey will compete in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Competition begins on Friday with the preliminaries of the 4x100m relay at 1 p.m. on Friday and concludes, at least for the Herd, with the 4x400m relay at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
