Track Team Returns to Athens For McDonald’s Invitational
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—The Marshall track and field teams are two weeks removed from their second place finish at Ohio University’s Early Bird Invitational. The Thundering Herd athletes will return to Athens, Ohio Saturday for the McDonald’s Invitational.
Several Mid-American Conference schools will be competing in Athens Saturday. The men will compete against nationally ranked Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Ohio, Buffalo, Findlay, Wright State, Hillside and Muskingum. The women will compete against Ohio, Bowling Green, Toledo Buffalo, Wright State, Findlay and Muskingum. The University of Dayton is also scheduled to be in competition.
Last time Marshall visited the Goldsberry Track in Athens; senior Erin Compton broke the facility record in the discus with a throw of 163-feet-3 inches. Compton won the discus and hammer throw events and finished fifth in the shot put.
Marshall dominated the throwing events at the Ohio Early Bird Invitational. Terry Stahl, Zach Helm and Lucas Heager rounded out the top three in the men’s hammer throw. Senior Shani Brown took first in the women’s shot put.
Marshall was scheduled for the Ohio State Relays, but head coach Jeff Small said the McDonald’s Invitational would give the Herd an opportunity to compete against MAC schools they would see at the MAC Outdoor Championships in May.
