Field Athletes Lead Way at Bobcat Field Festival
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - Junior Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.), sophomore Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va.) and freshman Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) caputured first place finishes in their respective events to lead the Thundering Herd on Wednesday at the Bobcat Field Festival hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan.
Belzer placed first in the hammer throw with a distance of 153-09 and second in the discus (122-00) setting personal best marks in both events. Sophomore Nicole Kyle (Keyser, W.Va.) added a second place finish in the hammer throw (124-08).
Garner set a personal best while finishing first in the long jump with a dsiance of 18-01. Brown added her own first place finish in the triple jump (36-09) and a third place finish in the long jump (17-01).
On the track junior Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J.) and freshman Maggie Smith (Kearneysville, W.Va.) had personal best times in the 1500m with 5:25.6 and 5:26.1, respectively.
On slate next for the Thundering Herd women's track team is the 37th Annual SeaRay Relays hosted by University of Tennessee. Marshall will begin competition on Friday in Knoxville.
