April 15, 2013
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Senior Vanessa Jules set two new school records and won two events at the Hilltopper Relays to be named Marshall's Student-Athlete of the Week.
Jules broke her own school record in the high jump and the 100 meter hurdles. Her first place leap of 1.82 meters (5-11.50) broke the record she set last season (5-10) by over an inch. In the hurdles, Jules had a winning time of 13.68 seconds, just surpassing her 13.80 from last season.
She currently ranks 13th in the nation in the high jump and 29th in the East region in the 100 meter hurdles. Updated national and region rankings will be released on Tuesday. The top 48 of each region qualify for the NCAA first-round with a chance to make the NCAA Championships.
Jules was in stiff competition for student-athlete of the week with her own teammates as Amanda Kennedy (javelin), Jasia Richardson (triple jump) and Crystal Walker (long jump) all broke school records.
