Herd Looking for Continued Improvement
April 19, 2012
RICHMOND, Ky.- Fresh-off one of its better performances of the 2012 outdoor season, the Marshall University women’s track and field team will make the short trek to Eastern Kentucky University on Friday for an all-day meet at the Tom Samuels Track.
Beginning at 12:00 p.m., the meet will commence with the field events as Amanda Hottenstein and Elizabeth Barnhart compete in the hammer toss at noon, and Jasia Richardson participates in the long jump at 3:00. Rachel Coaxum and Loren Dyer will then take part in the triple jump at 5:00 p.m., while the trio of Amanda Kennedy, Vanessa Jules, and Elaine Derricott will compete in the shot put and javelin throws at 3:45 and 8:00, respectively.
Marshall will then look to continue its ascension in the relay races as the running events begin at 5:00 p.m. After breaking the school record in the 4x400 last weekend and coming close in the 4x100, the relay squads will be looking for more improvement when they run at 5:15 (4x100) and 7:45 (4x400). The Herd will also compete in the 5000m, 1500m, 800m, 400m, 200m, and 100m races throughout the afternoon as Brittany Carey (200m), Andrea Gaither (200m), Crystal Walker (100m), and others look to improve upon the personal bests set at the Hilltopper Relays last Saturday.
The EKU Open will be Marshall’s third-to-last meet before heading to the Conference USA Championships in New Orleans on May 11. Up next for the Herd will be the famous Penn Relays on April 26 in Philadelphia, Pa. For a schedule of events and other meet information pertaining to the EKU Open, please click the link below.
