Marshall to Compete at Inaugural UK Meet
Herd looks for momentum heading into Penn Relays
April 19, 2013
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Coming off a week where five school records were set, the Marshall track and field team will look for more success on Saturday at the Heart of the Bluegrass Track Classic in Lexington, Ky.
The meet, which for Marshall begins at 10:30 a.m. with the 4x100 meter relay, will be the inaugural meet at the University of Kentucky's brand new track and field complex which opened on Oct. 5.
The Thundering Herd just competed in the state of Kentucky a week ago at the WKU Hilltopper Relays. There, Vanessa Jules (high jump, 100m hurdles), Amanda Kennedy (javelin), Jasia Richardson (triple jump) and Crystal Walker (long jump) all broke school records.
Of that group, only Kennedy will be competing in her respective event on Saturday as she will try to improve on her record mark of 158-3 in the javelin, which ranks 19th in the nation. The team will be at full strength April 25-27 for the famed Penn Relays.
Richardson will compete, but in the long jump instead of the triple jump, where she holds a Conference USA best jump of 42-4.25 which ranks 16th in the nation.
Freshman Asia Bange will compete in the 100 meter hurdles. She is coming off a personal best time of 14.04 last Saturday. That time ranks 11th in C-USA and is the second best of any freshman in the conference.
Ten universities, including Marshall, have entered competitors in Saturday's meet.
