HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - With the Conference USA Championships just around the corner, the Marshall track and field team will have one final tune-up on Friday at the Ohio Open in Athens, Ohio.

The only student-athletes competing for the Thundering Herd are the throwers and distance crew. The events begin at 2 p.m. with the shot put as Amanda Hottenstein and Bethany Drury from Marshall look for improved marks. Drury, a freshman, is coming off a season-best throw of 12.84 meters at Penn Relays last weekend.

Drury and Hottenstein will also compete in the hammer throw along with freshman Carrie Corriell who is also throwing the discus. Senior Amanda Kennedy will try to improve her school-record throw of 48.23 meters in the javelin.

Kelley Mortakis (1500m, 3000m) will double up on distance events while 10 others compete in just one event. Julia Galloway is Marshall's sole representative in the 5000 meters. Celia Leonard, Alexandria Phares, Zoe Leonard, Molly Miloscia, Lauren Bartoldson, Sammantha Stroker, Leslie Thomas, Whitney Lewis and Michaele Morgan are all competing in the 1500 meters.

Paige Govey and Lexie McEntire will compete in the 800 meters.

The whole squad will compete at the Conference USA Championships held May 8-11 in Houston, Texas.
