Three @HerdTFXC Athletes Qualify for NCAA Preliminary Championships
Montes, Heiniger, Butler qualify
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—The Marshall University track and field team will send three members of its team to the 2017 NCAA East Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships. The meet takes place in Lexington, Kentucky, and is the qualifying meet for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Alexis Montes: Qualifies in the javelin throw with the 14th best mark in the east region. Her qualifying mark of 50.03 meters (164 feet, 1 inch) was set at the High Point University Bob Davidson Spring Kick-Off in March. The graduate senior competes in her first NCAA Division I Championships, as last season she finished seventh in the Division II National Championships.
Heidi Heiniger: Qualifies in the javelin throw with the 45th best mark in the east region. Her qualifying mark of 45.12 meters (148 feet) was set at the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational. The sophomore competes in her first NCAA Division I Championships.
Antonique Butler: Qualifies for the second consecutive season in the triple jump. Her qualifying mark of 12.72 meters (41 feet, 8.75 inches) was set at the Conference USA Championships in El Paso, Texas. The senior’s mark was the 37th best in the east region.
