Herd Sends Eight to NCAA Prelims|

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Eleven days after finishing an all-time best fifth place at the Conference USA Championships, the Marshall track and field team will send a school-record eight individuals to the NCAA East Preliminaries held May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C.
Vanessa Jules and Crystal Walkerwill be the first to compete for Marshall in the long jump at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Walker ranks fifth in the East with a school-record jump of 6.35 meters and Jules ranks 35th with a jump of 6.10 meters which won her the event in the C-USA heptathlon.
Jules, who has already advanced to the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon with her 5,807 point performance at the C-USA Championships, will also compete in the high jump and the 100 meter hurdles. The high jump, held Friday at 6 p.m., has been Jules' most successful event over the years. She ranks 14th in the East with a high jump mark of 1.82 meters this season. The first round of the 100 meter hurdles begins at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Senior Amanda Kennedywill compete in the javelin at noon on Friday. She ranks 12th in the event with a season-best throw of 48.23 meters. Kennedy is coming off an all-conference performance, placing third in the event at C-USA.
Walker and Jasia Richardsonwill compete in the triple jump on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Richardson is ranked 10th in the East with a school-record jump of 12.92 meters and Walker ranks 27th with a C-USA winning jump of 12.71 meters.
Marshall's 4x400 meter relay team of Shanice Johnson, Loren Dyer, Kearra Haynes and Amber Piersonwill run in the final event of Saturday at 9:25 p.m. The foursome broke the school-record last time out with an all-conference performance of 3:37.58.
The top 12 competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance from the East prelim as well as the West prelim in Austin, Texas to advance to the final championships competition held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
