Jules Named C-USA Field Athlete of the Year|

IRVING, Texas - Marshall senior Vanessa Jules was named Conference USA Field Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced on Thursday.
The Silver Spring, Md. native became the first student-athlete at Marshall to ever win the award, which is voted on by the conference coaches. Octavious Freeman of UCF was named track athlete of the year.
Jules, who was recently named first team All-American, by finishing sixth in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships, is a two-time conference champion with titles in both the heptathlon and the high jump at this season's C-USA Outdoor Championships. She broke the school and C-USA record in the heptathlon with 5,807 points, a number that she exceeded at the NCAA Championships (5,865).
In addition to the heptathlon, Jules set school records this season in the 100 meter hurdles (13.67) and the high jump (5-11.5). Other awards she has won this season include the Most Outstanding Performance of the Meet at the C-USA Championships and the Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year, an honor given out by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches of America.
Jules will compete at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held June 20-23 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
