Herd Track and Field to Face Ohio in Season Opening Meet
Meet gets underway Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—The Marshall track and field team is set to begin its 2017-18 season on Thursday at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex in a dual meet against Ohio University.
The meet begins at 7:15 p.m. with the long jump. Admission to the event is free for spectators.
The Herd opens its season for the first of seven indoor meets, four of which are at home. The Herd will send athletes to nine outdoor meets for a total of 15 meets from December to May.
For the fourth consecutive season since the opening of its own indoor track and field facility, Marshall will begin its season at home during the first week of December. The Herd has won the meet every year, beginning in 2014 versus Ohio, in 2015 versus Ohio and Radford, and in 2016 versus Ohio.
Last season in Marshall’s 83.5 to 44.5 win over the Bobcats, two Marshall school records were broken. Current junior Hasana Clark broke the weight throw record with a toss of 18.42 meters (60 feet, 5.25 inches). Current junior Elena Marchand also broke the indoor shot put record on that night, a record she would break two more times later in the season.
The meet will feature nine athletes competing in their first meet for Marshall. Eight athletes make their collegiate track debut, while Reneese Batson makes her debut for the Herd after sitting out last season due to transferring.
