Dr. Jerry Gregg enters his third season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Marshall University volleyball team.Gregg works primarily with the setters and has over 30 years of experience coaching volleyball.
Gregg comes to Marshall from Glenville State College (DIII), where he was the head coach for the 2007 season. There he led the Lady Pioneers to the GSC school record for overall victories (15).
Prior to his stint at GSC, Gregg served as the head coach at Cal State University Monterey Bay for six seasons. Before being the coach at CSU Monterey Bay, the squad finished ninth of 11 conference teams. Within two seasons, Gregg had the Otters qualify for the playoffs as a NAIA school. In 2004, CSUMB transferred to DII and in his last year helped the team finished third in conference play, only trailing two nationally ranked schools in Lon Angeles State and Cal Poly Pomona.
While at CSUMB, the volleyball program led every other sport in win-loss record, conference finish, team GPA, player retention and graduation rate under the watch of Gregg.
In 1998, Gregg served as the head coach of Fullerton College, a California Community College. After the team did not win a single match the previous season, Gregg helped improve the team to qualify for the playoffs.
Gregg has had stints coaching high school volleyball at Whitney HS (Cerritos, Calif.), Cypress HS (Cypress, Calif.), Magnolia HS (Anaheim, Calif.), along with coaching Seal Beach VBC and Ichiban VBC junior club teams. He currently assists with the River Cities VBC team in Huntington, W.Va.
Gregg graduated from Cal State University Long Beach in 1962, before getting his Master in Education at the University of Southern California in `65 and later his Doctorate in Education in `72.
