Ellen Hayes, a native of Chicago, joined Marshall in 2007 with extensive playing and coaching experience. A graduate of DePaul University in 2007, Hayes holds the McGrath Arena record for most digs in a single game with 34 against Tulane in October of 2004, earned third team All C-USA in 2004, ranks fifth all time in digs per season with 510, tallied a career high 24 kills on three occasions, and registered a career high hitting percentage of .850 against Bradley Univ. in 2005.
At the collegiate level, Hayes was a captain for 4 years, was named Most Valuable Player in 2006, was named the 2007 Outstanding Leader for Athletics, was named 1 of 20 Outstanding Senior Leaders for DePaul's 2007 graduating class and was a 5 year member of DePaul Athletic Captains' Council. Off the court, Hayes served as treasurer for the 2005-06 school year, and vice president during the 2006-07 school year and was a member of the C-USA Honor roll during the 2002, 2003 and 2004 seasons, including being named a Big East Academic All-Star during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
Hayes coached club volleyball for 1st Alliance/Fearless VBC in Chicago, IL. Her Fearless 16's team took second place at the 2007 Prep Classic in Wisconsin Dells. Following that tournament, Hayes garnered Best Coach honors for the 16 and under open division at the PrepVolleyball.com 2007 Prep Classic.
