TULSA, OKLA. - The No. 21 ranked Tulsa pushed past the Marshall volleyball team in straight sets on Thursday night. The Hurricane used a 14 kill performance from one of the country's best outside hitters, Tyler Peterson, to defeat Marshall 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-13) and keep their hold on the number one spot in Conference USA standings.
Marshall (4-16, 3-7 C-USA) was led by Desirre Wilkerson with nine kills, a .250 attack percentage and two blocks (1 solo, 1 assist). Abby Tomas added eight kills to the mix and Laura Der finished with five. Sammie Bane was one dig shy of another double-double as she finished with 29 assists and nine digs. Bane also contributed two service aces.
Tulsa (18-5, 9-1 C-USA) was led by Tyler Henderson, who showed why she is the number four player in the nation in kills per set as she posted 14 kills during the three sets. Diana Silva added 11 and the Hurricane as a whole outhit the Herd 47 kills to 29.
The Hurricane grew stronger as the match progressed, increasing their team attack percentage each set (.281, .361, .412) to knock off Marshall in three sets. The Herd was never able to establish a lead in any game as the Hurricane held Marshall's team attack average to below .09 (29 kills, 20 errors, 107 total attacks).
