HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball was swept by Southern Miss on Friday evening, losing 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 15-25) in the Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg, Miss.
After losing the past four matches, Marshall is now 16-9 (6-5 C-USA). The Golden Eagles improved to 7-16 (3-8 C-USA) with the victory.
"All the credit goes to Southern Miss," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "They forced all the tempo tonight, made all the plays and were everywhere. We need to regroup fast before we play ourselves out of the tournament.
"I know it's still in our group to play good volleyball, we just haven't the past four matches."
Laura Der led the Herd with 15 kills and earned a .256 hitting percentage. The outside hitter was one dig shy of a double-double, booking nine for the night.
Freshman Lauren Legge followed with eight kills, while middle blocker Sacha Byous-McConnell added six.
Byous-McConnell led the Herd on defense with two blocks. Libero Dorothy Rahal combined for a match-high 18 digs from the back row.
Southern Miss held a .311 team attack percentage for the match, while recording 10.0 total blocks on defense.
USM's Quinci Hayward and Halie Ecker both earned double-digit kills, while Jasmine Crowell combined for nine kills and six blocks.
