HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Bailey D’Antoni will be joining the Thundering Herd volleyball team for the 2012 season.

Daughter to Mark and Michelle D’Antoni, the West Virginia native will continue the Marshall athletic tradition set by her two uncles, Mike and Dan D’Antoni, by playing in the Cam Henderson Center next season.

As a 5-4 defensive specialist from St. Albans, W.Va., D’Antoni was a four year starter for St. Alban’s High School. During her high school career, her ability on the court was rewarded with an All-State honorable mention as well as an All-Mountain State Athletic Conference honorable mention.

Three-time captain and MVP of her high school team, D’Antoni was an all-tournament selection at the Charleston Catholic Invitational and was named MVP at the Dragonfest Tournament in St. Alban’s.

Her travel team experience includes the Charleston Volleyball Club and Kanawha Valley Volleyball Club before she joined the River Cities 18’s led by Marshall assistant coach Kim Martinez.

“Bailey worked her tail off to be offered a position on the team,” said head coach Mitch Jacobs. “I felt that she did everything we had asked her. We saw a kid who was extremely coachable and developing the ability to compete at a higher level. She will be an asset to our program both on and off the court.”

D’Antoni is an accomplished student, being offered the Thomas Scholarship and Michael Perry Scholarship and was awarded a community service award by her high school.

D’Antoni joins Jillian Shemanski, Lauren Legge, Independence Jorji, and Sara Bailey as incoming freshmen for the 2012 season.
