HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Ashley Arnold, a 6’0” middle hitter from Winthrop University out of the Big South Conference, has transferred to Marshall, Thundering Herd head coach Mitch Jacobs announced on Tuesday.
"You always have question marks when looking at transfers, but the more I got to know Ashley the more impressed I became with who she is as a person," said Jacobs. As a player, Ashley has all the tools to be a fantastic middle blocker. She has great instincts on the block and I look forward to seeing her growth here in our program. With the permanent loss of Jaylene Berrien to injury, I believe that Ashley is the perfect addition to our returning players and incoming class."
Arnold, who will be a sophomore this fall, set a single-season record for kills during her senior season at Socastee High School. She also earned all-conference and all region honors as a junior and senior when she served as team captain. She was named the Most Valuable Player for her club team, the Grand Strand Juniors, and won Battle at the Beach, a state juniors beach tournament in 2011.
A Dean’s List student at Winthrop, the Myrtle Beach, S.C. native is a double major of English and Political Science.
The Herd begins its 2013 season at the UVA Tournament on August 30.
