Marshall incoming volleyball freshman Liz Fleming (South Bend, Ind.) won the American Tournament Gold Division national championship on Friday night at the Junior Olympics in Minneapolis. Fleming was also named to the American Tournament All-American team.
Fleming, a 5'11 setter from South Bend, Indiana, represented the Hoosier region on the Dunes 18 Black team, which defeated volleyball powerhouse Sports Performance out of Chicago in the finals of the American Tournament. Fleming's Dunes 18 Black squad won 11 consecutive matches in a four-day period to claim the Junior Olympic title.
"This experience was great, and I'm very thankful that we won," said Fleming. "But, I know this is just the beginning and I'm looking forward to what lies ahead."
"I believe her experience of winning a national championship will help her get accustomed to Marshall volleyball and the role she will play with our team this season," said Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs.
