Marshall Volleyball Grabs First Win Of Season

    Greensboro, N.C.--The Marshall Volleyball team (1-3) came away with their first win of the season Friday night against UNC-Greensboro (0-5) in the first round of the UNCG Microtel Invitational 30-18, 30-25, 30-19. It was the first win for first-year head coach Mitch Jacobs.

    “It was great to get the first win with Marshall University,” said Jacobs. “But, we have a big day tomorrow, with two challenging matches. High Point can play at a very high level at times, and Winthrop is a MAC Championship-caliber team.”

    MU was never really challenged by the homestanding Spartans, as junior Tracey King (Tampa, Fla.) led the Thundering Herd onslaught with 14 kills and a .480 hitting percentage. Senior Heidi Kuethe (Normal, Ill.) had 12 kills, while junior Nicole Michal (Louisville, Ky.) had six kills and a .294 percentage. Freshman setter Katie Stein (Sussex, Wisc.) had 27 assists on the night.

    Tomorrow the Herd takes on High Point University at 10 a.m. and the Winthrop Eagles at 4:30 p.m.
