Herd Volleyball Readies For Road Match at Eastern Kentucky
HUNTINGTON, W.Va - The Thundering Herd volleyball team will look to get back on the winning track Tuesday, Sept.7, at Eastern Kentucky when the Colonels play host to Marshall at 7 p.m. in Richmond,Ky.
Marshall (2-2) opened the season with wins against Radford and Connecticut before dropping its last two matches against Wake Forest and South Carolina Saturday in the Demon Deacon Invitational.
The Colonels (4-1) come into Tuesday matchup with the Herd riding a four-game win streak in capturing the Duquense/Robert Morris Invitational last weekend.
"They are a hot team right now," Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "They've won four straight including one over Akron so we know we've got a tough battle ahead of us."
Marshall will look to put an end to EKU's hot streak much like the Colonels did to the Herd last season in Huntington. Marshall came into last season's match in Gullickson Hall riding a seven-match win streak before the Colonels picked up a 3-2 victory.
"I know our team is excited to get back on the court at Eastern and hopefully get back on the positive side of the win/loss column," Jacobs said.
The Herd is led this season by freshman Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad). In just four matches, Billingy has totaled a team leading 75 kills with a .327 hitting percentage. She was named to the all-tournament team at the Demon Deacon Invitational over the weekend.
EKU is led by current Ohio Valley Conference player of the week Lesley Aldridge. The senior has 111 kills in five matches this season for a total of 22.2 per match. Setter Kelly Jennings averages 55 assists per match for the Colonels.
Marshall will look to keep the Colonels from picking up the 700th win in the volleyball program's history Tuesday.
After battling the Colonels, Marshall returns home for a bout with Morehead State Friday night in the Cam Henderson Center at 7 p.m.
