HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After posting a 2-1 record over the weekend at the Thunder Invitational, the Marshall University volleyball team welcomes Morehead State and North Carolina A&T as part of a tri-match on Tuesday afternoon in the Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall vs. North Carolina A&T – 12 p.m.
North Carolina A&T vs. Morehead State – 3 p.m.
Marshall vs. Morehead State – 7 p.m.
The Thundering Herd knocked off Hofstra and High Point before falling to Cleveland State in the Thundering Invitational finale on Saturday afternoon.
MU standouts on the court during the two-day tournament included setter Elizabeth Fleming and middle blocker Cameron Yoho. Both players were named to the all-tournament team after leading the Herd to the team’s first two victories of the season.
Fleming averaged 9.33 assists/set and dished out 50 helpers on two occasions. She also recorded her first two double-doubles of the season during the three matches.
Yoho was a constant in the middle of the MU offense and defense. The Sistersville, W.Va., native registered an .410 attacking clip (32K-7E-61TA) and posted a career-high 13 kills in a five-set victory against High Point. Yoho also tallied an impressive seven blocks in a five-set win against Hofstra.
Morehead State (3-3)
The Eagles enter the mid-week tournament after competing in the Northwestern Challenge against Utah, Ole Miss and the tournament-host Wildcats. Morehead State knocked off the Utes in four sets before being swept in next two matches. MSU has four players that average better than 2.0 kills/set, led by Holly Evans (2.77 kills/set). Liz Schuler has been the leader of the Eagles’ defense, corralling 5.86 digs/set on the season.
North Carolina A&T (1-3)
After starting off the season with three-straight losses, the Aggies swept Savannah State last Thursday. Tatiana Cooper tops N.C. A&T in kills (27), while Andrea Evans is the leader in digs with 24 on the year.
