Volleyball Set for Eastern Kentucky
First serve starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball looks to keep its perfect home record (4-0) intact with a match against Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday. The 7 p.m. match will be played in the Cam Henderson Center and feature Military Appreciation Day.
The Thundering Herd enter the match 7-4 after winning every set of the Kent State Mizuno Tournament and winning the tournament title this past weekend. Three Marshall players were given honors following the tournament including setter Sammie Bane (MVP), libero Dorothy Rahal (Best Defensive Player) and outside hitter Laura Der (All-Tournament Team).
Senior Katy Schad leads the Herd on offense with 128 kills, but Der follows closely with 127 and a 3.97 kills per set average. Bane has accumulated 382 assists already on the season and is averaging 9.55 per set. Sophomore Katie Potts has come up big in critical moments lately and now leads the Herd with 12 service aces and has 12 blocks on the season.
On defense, Rahal has a team-high 145 digs, while freshman Jillian Shemanski leads the team with 33 total blocks from her middle blocker position. Fellow freshman, Lauren Legge has made her presence felt in her debut season, putting up 43 kills and marking a .229 hitting percentage for the season.
The Colonels are 3-6 for the season and just recently broke a six-match losing skid with a five set victory over Buffalo on Saturday. Eastern Kentucky is led on offense by junior outside hitter Ashley Edmond with 83 kills and a 2.68 kill per set average. She is followed by junior outside hitter Kelsey Kuehner, who has 76 kills. Kuehner leads the team in blocks with 24. Defensive specialist Dena Ott leads the team in digs with 148 and marks a 4.77 digs per set average. Setter Abbey Cvelbar has 243 assists on the year and is averaging 7.84 assists per set.
