Sept. 17, 2012
IRVING, Texas – Marshall volleyball’s Dorothy Rahal earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after leading the team to a 4-0 week and a tournament championship at the East Carolina Pirate Invitational.
“I'm very excited to see Dorothy be recognized by the league,” said head coach Mitch Jacobs. “She has worked very hard and had an especially strong week.”
Rahal averaged a C-USA weekly best 5.93 digs per set en route to guiding Marshall to its eight straight win. The Herd also won its third tournament title at the East Carolina Pirate Invitational this past weekend where Rahal accounted for an impressive 6.09 digs per set which earned her MVP honors. The junior libero posted a career-high 30 digs in the team's C-USA opener against host ECU and had at least 15 digs in each of the other three matches.
“It’s a great honor to be chosen for this award,” said Rahal. “This gives me more determination to add more accomplishments to our program. But most importantly it was the greatest birthday gift I could give my dad today - he would be turning 60 today.”
The award is the first of Rahal's career and also marks the first time a Marshall volleyball player has received the Defensive Player of the Week selection since joining C-USA.
