HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Marshall University volleyball team will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss to take on Conference USA rival Southern Mississippi on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. ET. The Herd then travels to Orlando, Fla. to compete against the University of Central Florida on Sunday, Sept. 30 in a C-USA contest. That match is set for 12 p.m. ET.
Marshall, riding a three-game win streak and coming off a 2-0 C-USA start, enters the weekend with a 9-7 overall record.
The Herd opened C-USA with a 3-1 win against SMU in Dallas, Texas on Friday, Sept. 21.
Marshall had three players register double-digit kills, including a match-high 28-kill effort from senior outside Kelly-Anne Billingy. Senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill registered her ninth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 16 digs, while junior middle hitter Jalicia Ross added 12 kills.
Senior libero Maggie Arias dug a match-high 22 balls in the winning effort while freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming tallied a match-high 57 assists.
In Marshall's C-USA home opener against Tulsa, Billingy tallied a match-high 23 kills, while Cahill recorded 15 kills and senior middle hitter Uche Ndubisi chipped in with 12 to lead the Herd to a 3-1 victory. Fleming pitched in with 56 assists in the win.
The win gave head coach Mitch Jacobs his 300th career win, and 118th at Marshall.
Following the weekend's conference sweep, Billingy earned her seventh career C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, while Fleming garnered her first ever C-USA Setter of the Week honor.
Southern Miss enters the weekend with a 9-7 overall record and 0-2 in conference play.
Southern Miss enters the match having won six straight before dropping 3-1 decisions to Rice and Houston.
The Golden Eagles' Morgan Johnson leads the team in kills with 188 on the season to lead five players with over 100 kills on the season. Amanda Huntoon tallied a team-high 16 kills against Houston while Ashley Petrinic led the Eagles with 13 kills against Rice.
Following the two-match road-trip, Marshall returns to Huntington with a five-match home-stand beginning on Oct. 5 against current C-USA-leader Tulane at 7 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall will host the 2007 Conference USA Championship on Nov. 15 to the 18th at the Cam Henderson Center and ticket prices are as follows:
