IRVING, Texas – Marshall junior setter Sammie Bane (Brownstown, Ind.) earned Conference USA Setter of the Week honors for her performances against Florida Atlantic and FIU, the conference announced Monday.
“This is such an honor,” commented Bane. “But it’s really is a team effort, it takes a great pass to start followed by a great swing. “I’m blessed to play with such a talented and fun team.”
Bane led Marshall to a pair of C-USA road victories during opening weekend action. She collected 91 total assists for an average of 11.38 assists per set, while leading her team to an overall hitting efficiency of .291, second best in the league for the week.
The junior dished out 59 assists and had 16 digs in a five-set win at Florida Atlantic Friday. She ended the weekend with 32 assists and 10 digs in a sweep over FIU Sunday. This is Bane's first Setter of the Week honor for this season but third of her career (Aug. 27, 2012 & Nov. 28, 2011).
“To have her chosen this week while we are running a 6-2 (two-setter offense) during different times of the match shows a lot of respect from the conference office,” remarked coach Mitch Jacobs. “I’ve been proud of how Sammie has handled the situation and has shown why she is a great leader.”
