Thundering Herd Look To Keep Pace In MAC With Match Against Western Michigan Friday
HUNTINGTON, W. Va.—After two road wins last weekend at Northern Illinois and Bowling Green, the Marshall volleyball team returns home to take on Western Michigan in important Mid-American Conference play Friday night. The Herd, currently second behind Akron in the MAC East Division with a 5-1 record, hopes to continue its best start in league play since 1998.
The Broncos enter Friday night’s play at 14-14 overall, 3-3 in conference play. However, WMU is coming off a split with two of the top teams in the MAC last week. They took out Eastern Michigan, a team that gave Marshall their only loss, and lost a hard fought game to the Akron Zips, who lead the Herd in the East Division with a 7-0 conference mark.
Marshall (14-5) enters this weekend with the best turnaround in Division I, according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Senior Heidi Kuethe leads the Herd in hitting percentage with a .290 average, the fifth best in the Mid-American Conference. Junior Tracey King leads the Herd with 252 kills, while freshman setter Katie Stein is averaging 11.3 assists per game.
Tomorrow night’s match starts at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
