IRVING, Texas – Marshall junior setter Sammie Bane (Brownstown, Ind.) earned Conference USA Setter of the Week honors for her performances against East Carolina and UAB, the conference announced Monday.
“We have been getting much more efficient in our system and Sammie (Bane) has allowed our system to expand and thrive,” coach Mitch Jacobs said. “Our team’s attack percentage is a direct reflection of her abilities and the way she’s giving our attackers excellent balls to kill.”
Bane led Marshall to a pair of straight-set victories last weekend. She dished out 81 assists over the two-matches with a .415 set percentage. The junior averaged 13.5 assists per set and led the team to a .249 hitting percentage for the week. Bane also tallied 18 digs and one kill, including 10 digs in Sunday's win at UAB.
This is her fourth career Setter of the Week honor and second of the season (Sept. 30).
“I am so proud of this team,” Sammie Bane said. “Each player on this team deserves recognition. The seniors are awesome. Sacha (Byous-McConnell) is having a phenomenal season and her efficiency at the net is incredible. Laura (Der) battled back from injuries and is killing it on the court. Dorothy (Rahal) is such a defensive force and great stability for us on the court.
“We have so many talented players who step up and make a difference on a daily basis,” added Bane. “This award is an honor for sure, but it would never be possible without a strong team inspired by a dedicated coaching staff. I am certainly blessed.”
