Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to Western Michigan
KALAMAZOO,Mich. – The Marshall University volleyball team dropped a hard fought battle to Western Michigan. The Broncos defeated the Herd in five games, 30-13, 30-28, 21-30, 28-30, 17-15.
The Broncos took control of the game early going up 2-0, but the Herd managed to fight back to claim the third and fourth games, but fell short in the fifth to lose, 17-15.
“If there is ever a heartbreaking loss, this is it,” said head coach Steffi Legall. “We fought back and played well in the third, fourth and fifth games but in the end the chips just didn’t fall in our favor. It was definitely a battle right down to the wire.”
Marshall was lead by Isabell Anderer (sophomore/Sinsheim, Germany) who had 16 kills, 14 defensive digs, three service aces and 1 block solo. Also helping the Herd out was Tracey King (sophomore/Miami, Fla.) who had 13 kills and six defensive digs.
“We played very good defensive volleyball tonight,” said Legall. “I think that we certainly put ourselves in a position to win Tuesday night against Akron at home. We now know that we can win against top teams in the league.”
The Herd falls to 5-16 overall and 3-9 in the MAC.
Marshall will be back in action Wednesday, October 31, against Akron.
