Volleyball Sets Sails for East Carolina

HUNTINGTON, W.VA. – For the last time of the 2011 season, Marshall Volleyball hits the road this Wednesday to face Conference USA opposition, East Carolina. After the conclusion of the match, Marshall will have one final competition against West Virginia on Friday to wrap up the season.

Marshall enters the match 8-21, 7-12 after taking two losses this past weekend to Memphis and UAB.

The Herd is led at the net by Abby Tomas, who sits 13th in the conference with 338 kills and a 3.16 kill per set average. Cameron Yoho adds 306 kills of her own and records a 2.86 kill per set average. Sammie Bane ranks 7th in the conference in assists after tallying a 10.16 assists per set average. Bane reached her season-goal of 1,000 assists against Memphis this past weekend and totals 1,087 for the season. The freshman setter also boasts 12 double-doubles for the season.

East Carolina is still searching for their first conference win of the season and currently stands at 2-26, 0-19 for the year. The match against Marshall will be the final contest of the season for the Pirates.

The Pirates are led by Britney Roper, who has collected 191 kills and has a 2.12 kill per set average. The senior outside hitter also leads the team in service aces with 24. Kelly Derby adds 159 kills to the mix and has a team-leading 83 blocks for the season, 12 of which are solos. Zarah Cecich and Kasey Kavanuagh share the role of setter for the Pirates as Cecich totals 382 assists for the season and Kavanaugh totals 317.
