Der Named Honorable Mention AVCA All-South Region

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Marshall outside hitter Laura Der capped an outstanding career this week as she was tabbed as an honorable mention selection on the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s (AVCA) All-South Region team.
Der, a two-time first team All-Conference USA selection, led the Herd to a 16-16 mark and a fourth-place league finish en route to a berth in the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament.
Joining her as an honorable mention South Region selection was Quinci Hayward from Southern Miss.

Named to the All-Conference USA first team on Nov. 19 for the second consecutive year ... Selected to the C-USA All-Academic team on Nov. 18 for the second consecutive year ... Earned Capital One Academic All-District first team honors ... Named 2013 Preseason All-C-USA ... Led the Herd with 350 kills, averaging 3.50 per set ... Second on the team with 302 digs ....Tallied 35 total blocks, 29 assisted and six solo ... Recorded 18 service aces ... Collected 22 double-digit kill efforts on the season ... Tallied 20 plus kills on three occasions ... Grabbed 13 double-doubles on the year ... Ranked 10th in C-USA in kills and 20th in digs ... She joined Bridget Repsher (1991-94) as the only Marshall players in history to finish in the top five in both kills and digs for a career ... Der finished with over 1,200 kills and digs in her outstanding playing career at Marshall ... She also finished in the top 10 in service aces, kills per set and total attempts.
