Edwards and Leitch have multi-hit efforts

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (9-5) fell to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (9-5), 8-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the Kennedy Center.

Marshall starting pitcher Louis Davenport started his outing with back-to-back scoreless frames in the top of the first and second innings.
Â
EKU got the scoring started with three runs in the third and added a pair in the fourth to put the Herd at a 5-0 deficit.
Â
Relief pitcher Chad Heiner, who had come into the game in the fourth inning, threw a 1-2-3 top of the fifth.
Â
The Colonels struck for another three runs in the top of the sixth.
Â
Marshall got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. A Travis Sankovich double down the left-field line scored Ryan Leitch. Geordon Blanton followed with a sacrifice fly to score Daniel Carinci to cut the deficit to 8-2.

Heiner closed his outing with a scoreless top of the seventh. Sam Thompson came on from the bullpen for Heiner in the eighth and didn't give up any runs on one hit in the final two innings of the contest as Marshall fell.
